The cooked made the bbq pork chow mein to my liking. Reminds me of sf Chinatown Chinese restaurants... made to order and Fred. Wife stock up on Chinese medicine and dried prunes and haw flakes. Will recommend to any one in midtown area. They also have lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice with green beans or peanuts too. Dim sum at 2pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Go early because they run out fast.

I called ahead to reserve a ceremonial steamed chicken that the kitchen prepares only for the Chinese New Year holiday. The same lady I spoke with on the phone politely helped me get my order, and helped me find some other traditional Chinese items such as roast pork, honey glazed BBQ pork, and sticky rice dumplings. The dumplings are the savory kind and both peanut and mung bean versions have Chinese sausage and marinated duck egg. I was also able to find dried Black Sea moss (fat choi) and vacuum sealed ginkgo nuts to make Buddha's delight (jai) for Chinese New Year. Where I was not able to find these at 99 Ranch in Folsom or Oriental Market in Roseville. The merchant told me the market has been there for 80 years of which the current owners have been there since 2007. So the business has worn an imprint into the shop space quite substantially. The kitchen in the back looks as if it's that old, with the fragrance of authentic smelling roast meats clinging to the walls and food display cases. The front of the store where the majority of the Asian groceries were kept, was clean and organized so it looked like an alchemist's lab of herbs, spices, grains and fresh produce. If you're looking for ingredients for a Chinese recipe or just feeling adventurous to check out some Chinese culture I'd recommend checking Ho Chin Market out.

This is a very hidden Asian market to me; I didn't realize this place until I was passing by it when to Tealicious. They have fresh vegetables, a variety of frozen goods, and homemade buns eg: bbq pork, chicken, custard and mantou and wontons. Their products are quite affordable and fresh. The staff was friendly when I asked some questions.
